What is an Interference Engine? |
An interference engine is a type of 4-stroke internal combustion piston engine. Depending on the design of the engine, piston and valve paths may "interfere" with one another as a result of incorrect timing in their movements usually caused by a failed timing belt.
In normal operation, the timing of the valve and piston's motion, managed by the cam belt, timing belt, or timing chain, prevents them from colliding. If however, the valve and piston timing is disrupted, then collisions may occur.
This is why Timing Belt Failure Insurance is a value-for-money option, as it insures your interference engine against timing belt failure which may result in expensive engine damage. |
